Zancle, Fantasia eclettica for Flute and Piano

This Fantasy, composed as a tribute to the city of Messina in Italy, really tells the story of the composer's experiences there. Alternating sections of swirling flourishes. strong rhythms and tender melodies, takes us on a colourful journey which the flute outlines perfectly. On a practical level, the key is C major and the writing traditional in outlook, with scales and arpeggios used as its main technical base. The melodies are expressively shaped and welcome interludes in the general hustle and bustle of the surrounding passages. Altogether this combination and narrative makes this lovely Fantasy a really successful piece!
