The Young Bassoonist, Volume 2 for Bassoon and Piano
From the Publisher
The Young Bassoonist in three graded volumes completes the series for solo orchestral woodwind and brass instruments begun with The Young Clarinettist in 1951. In common with this and fellow sets, it seeks to offer worthwhile musical material ranging from pre-grade III at the outset of Volume I to about grade VI in Volume 3.
Volume I : 29 Hymns, Carols, and Folk-songs
From an assumed knowledge of only three notes (C-D-E), the pieces progress in a logical order of increasing compass and general difficulty, covering a range of two octaves and a fourth from the bottom C. The four notes not used in this volume (low E flat, D flat, B, and B flat) will be covered by any normal tutor. The early difficulty of the 'break' between F and G is introduced gradually between Nos. 5-8.
Volume 2 : 8 Baroque and Romantic Pieces of moderate difficulty
The upper range is extended through the high F sharp, G, and A to B flat and C in the final piece, where tenor clef makes its first appearance.
Volume 3 : Baroque, Classical, and Romantic Pieces
With the major part of the bassoon's compass covered, the aim here is to extend the general level of difficulty, and to accustom the player to the use of the tenor clef.
