Will ‘o the wisp is one of several pieces the composer has written for the brilliant young American flautist Emma Resmini. The piece is inspired by the legend of the mischievous sprite who lures unwary travellers to the hidden perils of the mire with his enticing light. The piece depicts the gloomy nocturnal atmosphere and becomes very lively as the unlucky traveller is led on his merry dance, left stranded at the end in the foggy wilderness.
The piece is written for advanced players for concert performances.
