Here are three fabulous numbers from West Side Story which have been given an almost fantasy-like treatment by Liz Cutts. Incorporating extended techniques to give a real edge to the texture and making full use of the ranges of the instruments, there is plenty here to keep players interested. Audiences will appreciate the more imaginative approach too, illustrated best by 'America' where the famous tune takes a while to emerge. Each one would stand alone and all would make a really interesting contrast in a mixed recital. An excellent investment purchase!

Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, amazingly catchy as a musical and full of Bernstein's brilliant compositional skill, is here rewritten for flute quintet (with piccolo, 2 c flutes, alto, and bass). The three works of Volume 1 - skillful, elaborate transcriptions of Cool, A Boy Like That, and America - take advantage of the quintet's blended sound, and the technical flexibility of the flute, to turn the three works into idiomatic flute works.
