From the Publisher
These three pieces were composed in reverse order. The Hornpipe uses a well-known keyboard dance by Purcell and was written for John Turner, who liked it and asked for two more pieces. These became the Prelude and the Barcarolle, which are based on accompanimental ideas from the Hornpipe. The pieces were first performed together by John Turner and Peter Lawson, and a version with string accompaniment (available for hire) was made subsequently. A separate recorder part is included, which also serves as the solo part for the string version.
