“Another view on Telemann”
This is an interesting new version of Telemann's Fantasias. Barthold Kuijken has made editorial suggestions to the score which are based on a critical analysis of the facsimile, included in the book for reference. The preface is excellent and uses scholarship to back up his choices. The editing itself is clear with minimal markings to distract from the music. If you are an aficionado of these wonderful pieces you will enjoy this new take on playing them and if you are new to the music you will gain a great insight into performing them for the first time. Altogether this is a good edition to have, even if you already own a copy!
From the Publisher
Unfortunately, the original edition of the 12 Fantasias by Georg Philipp Telemann has survived only as a copy of poor quality. Therefore, Barthold Kuijken presents a transcription along with a critical appraisal of the musical text. His preface informs about the genesis of the work, discusses the scoring, and comments on stylistic and formal aspects.
