“A project!”
The 'Turtle and Rabbit' is a different take on the famous Aesop fable of the hare and the tortoise, and Greg Lutz has done a great job in bringing this to life in a piece which is both tuneful and colourful. The parts are relatively straightforward so the real challenge lies in bringing all his various strands together. There are plenty of mood and speed changes to negotiate, four of the parts double on various percussion instruments so two players per part would make this easier and then there is the narrator to balance. It's worth the effort though and doesn't everyone enjoy a project?
From the Publisher
Turtle and Rabbit by Greg Lutz for Flute Choir and Narrator. A new take on a familiar story! In regards to the Percussion parts, there are a few ways which they can be performed. Optimally, with a large enough flute choir, one player from each of the involved parts (Piccolo, Flute 2, 3, and 4) would be able to play the parts at the times indicated in their parts. Additionally, a separate percussion part is included and can be played by a single player. Or lastly, they can be considered optional and omitted entirely (of course, not optimal).
