Trio for Two Flutes and Cello, Op1/5
- Great for teachers
From the Publisher
In the Berlin State Library I came across the first print of 6 Trios opus 1 for 2 flutes and violoncello or bassoon by JC Baumberg , the beauty of which surprised me very much. So it was all the more astonishing for me when I continued to work with this composer that almost no information about him can be found in old encyclopedias. A sparse entry in one of these old encyclopedias was not even clear about the composer's first name; only these 6 Trios op. 1 are listed in the list of works .
On the title page of the first edition, however, it is noted that the composer of these trios is one
Professeur d'ecole normal a St. Poelten
act, about a teacher who is said to have worked in the Austrian city of St. Pölten.
His life dates are likely to be in the late Baroque / Galanter style, i.e. somewhere between 1720 and 1780. All 6 trios have in common that they do not have any figures in the bass, the specified line-up with 2 flutes and violoncello or bassoon, thus the tendency in the Galanten Style corresponds to completely renouncing the figured bass.
Errors in the parts of the first edition, mostly missing accidentals, different rhythmic notations, e.g. in parallel movements of thirds in the two flutes, have been corrected or adapted accordingly. In order to facilitate the execution, suggestion notes have been notated in some places in the two flute parts based on the possibilities offered by Quantz
