Tityre is Virgil’s Good Shepherd who plays on a slender pipe. Roussel wrote this piece as a character study of his friend, Gaston Blanquart (flute teacher at the Paris Conservatoire) to whom it is dedicated.   We also publish Tityre (Joueurs de Flute no.2) in the original version for flute and piano.
