“Fascinating music.”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]

These three pieces are really fascinating. From the atmospheric octaves in the piano that introduce a ghostly vision of the Belfy of Bruges it's clear that the writing for both instruments is full of colour and imagination. The flute melody in From Bredon in the Cotswolds uses the low register to create a compelling sense of unease which lightens only at the end. The writing in A Balcony in Montparnasse, the longest and most complex of the three, looks very French although the harmonies are rather different. This is a substantial work and each piece could easily be used separately. Any one would make a great contrast in a recital of British flute music.
