“Another gem from Andy Scott”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]
This is another good piece from Andy Scott which is really powerful and not for the faint-hearted! There is some repose but mostly this is strong and rhythmic with plenty of action in both instruments. At one point the piano is instructed to play a left forearm smash and the ensuing passage of improvisatory writing is very effective. Have fun!

Our Description

Three Letter Word is dedicated to the music and memory of the Swedish composer Esbjorn Svensson.

In terms of writing this piece I have taken two sound worlds: one is rhythmically free with virtusoic flute lines and an underlying tremolo based around four notes form the piano, the second is based around a tow-bar piano riff over which the flute explores different musical possibilities. Both these ideas return in different guises before a solo piano chorale precedes a final section. Hiddne in the piece is a short melodic quote from Dolores in a shoestand from the EST abum Tuesday Wonderland (2006).

Difficulty guide: 8
Difficulty level, roughly compared to ABRSM exam grades. 0 is total beginner, 9 is advanced (beyond grade 8).
