Godard's Suite op. 116 was published by Durand et Schoenewerk in Paris in 1889. The movements Allegretto - Idylle - Valse were dedicated to the Parisian flautist Paul Taffanel (1844-1908), who not only composed and conducted, but as a teacher at the Conservatoire was particularly valuable in developing a new French flute sound with little vibrato.
