“Lovely arrangement”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]

This is a lovely arrangement of the second lute suite and was originally composed around 1740. It is just quite delightful. The work starts with a Fantasy Prelude and continues with a Fuga, Sarabande, Gigue and Double. Both parts have been sensitively transcribed and well edited as you always expect from Zimmermann. A great addition to the repertoire.

Our Description

The edition presented here is an adaptation of the so-called "second" lute suite whose original instrumentation, however, still remains uncertain. Judging by formal aspects, this piece has more in common with the Italian Sonata di chiesa than with the suite. But as this term is still asscociated with this particular piece, it has also been kept for this edition. The arrangement closely follows the urtext of the New Bach Edition while aiming at the same time to give the bass part an individual character.
