“Wonderful!”
This imaginative piece absolutely gives us the 'gypsy couple who dance the flamenco with great longing, passion and vigor'. The sultry opening is wonderfully expressive and gives way to a 'feisty' section which becomes ever more exciting before the opening returns. All the tradional influences of the flamenco are used to maximum effect here - this is wonderful!
From the Publisher
Flamenco is an art form involving highly dramatic music and dance. Associated with the Andalusia region of southern Spain, its actual origins are less clear, often assumed to have been developed by migrant cultures traveling from India prior to the 15th century, absorbing Spanish, Sephardic, Islamic, and Moorish musical traditions along the way. Sueños de Flamenco (Flamenco Dreams) portrays a young couple who dance the flamenco with great longing, passion, and vigor. The piece was commissioned by Duo Montagnard (Joseph Murphy, saxophone, and Matthew Slotkin, guitar), and later transcribed by the composer for flute and guitar.
