  • Interesting, worth a look

From the Publisher

The Chinese character su has the meaning of tracing back to the source of recalling ancient times. My composition was inspired by the distinctive qualities fo the ancient Chinese qin,  a seven string plucking instrument similar to the zither.

Su cpatures the essence of music written for the qin which is characterised by scales, harmonics, multi-fingered plucking and rapid glissandos (simulating thunder). Harmonics are particularly important in the music - the purityof the sound signifyinf a clear and noble soul. Traditionally the qin was paired with the xiao, a vertical bambbo flute - both are delicate and elegant instruments, yet are capable of a wide range of expression. Transferring the musical characteristics of these two ancient instruments to the western flute and harp expands the tonal rane and dynamic contrasts making the music more dramatic.
