“Textural fun for flute choir!”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]

If you are looking to add some textural contrast in your next flute choir concert but don't want to go down the extended techniques route, this could be just the piece. Peter Senchuk builds ethereal chords part by part to evoke increasing drops of rain before more gentle writing gives the feeling of floating on water. There is suddenly a complete change of tempo with plenty of energy which fizzes along in a more structured fashion to show all the fun of messing about in boats. This is an unusual choice for a flute choir and one which everyone will enjoy.

From the Publisher

Commissioned in 2023 by the Laguna Flutes, The Spirit of Water is composed in two sections with the first part depicting the gentler side of water. The beginning notes represent the first drops of rain that then gain intensity and grow into a rain shower. This is followed by a lyrical melody that mirrors the feeling of floating along the gentle current of a river. The second section of the piece is faster in tempo with a lively and whimsical nature, and is meant to convey the idea of people of all ages enjoying playing in the water.
