In Southern Seas has had a resurgence in popularity thanks to its recnet listing on the ABRSM Grade 4 syllabus. There are even numerous performances of The Reef on You Tube, uploaded by keen young players. These are fascinating and descriptive pieces by brilliant childrens composer Walter Carroll, the Beatrix Potter of learner piano music, whose use of music, poetry and art in his now classic albums has appealed to successive generations of children. As a result they are still widely used on exam syllabi and by teachers around the world nearly a century after they were written. Suggested grade 4
