The inspiration for the edition was a transcription of the Trio for flute, violin and viola op. 25 to the Serenade for piano and flute, which Beethoven had published as op. 41. The editor proceeded accordingly: The oboe parts have been adopted unchanged, the respective piano parts were formed by the two remaining parts and cleverly and carefully filled in with additional harmony tones.
