From the Publisher
After his successful edition of the Capriccios by Johann Joachim Quantz, Eric Lamb presents here the first modern edition of the six partitas for solo flute by Johann George Tromlitz. The source for this edition is a manuscript preserved in the Royal Library in Copenhagen entitled Sei Partite per il Flauto Traverso Solo senza accompagnamento da Giovanni Giorgio Tromlitz in Lipsia.
Tromlitz is one of the most important developers of the flute and its playing technique and was considered the best flutist of his time. His partitas reflect his virtuosity, but also the new dynamic possibilities of the instrument he developed, which were groundbreaking for his epoch.
