From the Publisher
Wagner composed Siegfried Idyll as a birthday present to his second wife, Cosima, after the birth of their son Siegfried in 1869. It was first performed by a chamber ensemble on Christmas morning in 1870. What a gift! Using the full range of low flutes keeps this setting in its original key, and allows the C flutes to sing over the top of the sumptuous harmonies, with a piccolo adding extra range and colour. Perfect for 12 accomplished players or flute orchestra.
