In Mel Orriss's expert hands the original lush orchestral colours are reproduced as effectly as possible, allowing the majestic scope of Wagner's writing to have it's full impact. If you lucky enough to have access to contra-alto and double contrabass flutes the version for Flute Orchestra will impress even more. This is an excellent way for flute players to learn this important orchestral score and it will certainly be a crowd pleaser for audiences and performers alike. It's a must buy, that's for sure!

Wagner composed Siegfried Idyll as a birthday present to his second wife, Cosima, after the birth of their son Siegfried in 1869. It was first performed by a chamber ensemble on Christmas morning in 1870. What a gift! The equal balance of low flutes in this setting allows the C flutes to sing over the top of the sumptuous harmonies, with a piccolo adding extra range and colour. Perfect for 10 accomplished players or flute orchestra.
