Fauré initially wrote the Sicilienne as indicental music to Molière's 'Bourgeois gentilhomme' for small-scale string orchestra. In 1898 he wrote an arrangement for violoncello and piano which enjoys great popularity and belongs to the standard Romantic cello repertoire. Our new edition contains fingerings and bowing marks by Maria Kliegel.
