Jan Swafford composed Shore Lines for Soprano and Flute in 1982 and dedicated it to Melinda Kessler Spratlan, soprano, and Akaldev Khalsa, flute. It consists of five poems by Denise Levertov set to music, as well as two movements of incidental music, before the first poem, and following the final poem.
