Servicing the Flute

This great little book is included in the Valentino Flute Servicing Kit but will prove very useful in its own right. It won't save on those complete overhaul and repad jobs, but it might just get you out of a hole when your flute plays up on a concert with no technician in sight. It might also enable you to effect a simple repair to a student's instrument. There is lots of good, common sense advice (be careful, patient, neat and precise etc) and a comprehensive guide to the terminology of the parts of the flute you possibly didn't know existed. The chapters are:

1. Disassembling and assembling
2. Dealing with pad leaks
3. Replacing pads
4. Kickers (felts and corks)
5. Adjusting
6. Lost motion and key height
7. Head corks
8. Oiling

Each one is described in simple language and illustrated extremely well by a set of photographs. There will be a place for this on most flute players' shelves.
