“Accessible contemporary music.”

This is great for anyone who would like to play a piece written by a 'big name' contemporary composer that is accessible. The work is a substantial 9 minutes long with six short movements and pairing two contrasting movements would also work very well. Sensible notes ranges and approachable rhythms open the door to intermediate performers so it is the minimalist style that is new here. The opening Prelude is simply constructed as is the more energetic Caprice. A lilting Intermezzo is followed by a sombre Lament which becomes decorated by atmospheric trills. The Arioso uses large leaps to develop the enigmatic melody and the closing Finale mixes a jaunty Vivace and an elusive moderato. This is a very good piece which is just that little bit different.
