From the Publisher
Samuel Adler’s SERENADE for flute and string trio is centered around its multifaceted second movement. Slow and rubato at the start, this movement juxtaposes a resigned, arioso flute solo, based on a fragment from a Bach cantata, with sections of stinging, anxious music. The outer movements are a chromatic frolic in unpredictable rhythms, and a driving finale featuring inventive dialogue between all members of the ensemble. For advanced performers.
