“Lovely music!”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]
It's so nice to be able to play the lovely music of Mel Bonis and these four arrangements of piano vignettes give us access to an even greater choice. They are also useful teaching pieces too as they are a little easier than some of her original repertoire. Pres de Ruisseau sweeps along in a Presto 6/8, Pensees d'Autuomne has beautiful harmonies, the soulful Meditation is lyrical and enigmatic, and the Viennoise has masses of energy. There is so much to enjoy here - this book is very good!

From the Publisher

Mel Bonis studied the piano and composition under Cesar Frank at the Paris Conservatoire. It was there that she changed her name from Mélanie to a more androgynous Mel, to avoid the prejudice that women composers encountered at that time. After many years of unhappy domesticity, she returned to composition in her forties. She enjoyed great success and produced some 300 pieces in various genres. One of her best known pieces is a sonata for flute and piano; these four pieces have been arranged from her piano pieces to expand this repertoire and give flautists more chance to play her compositions.
