“Great to play!”
This is such a good piece for flute quartets to have in their repertoire. It's of a moderate technical difficulty with some off beat rhythms to catch out the unwary. The challenge, and indeed the fun of the piece, is in the intricate weaving of the parts which are constantly on the move and restless. There is a brief moment of repose in the middle but otherwise this is definitely running music and great to play!
From the Publisher
Running Man: This work for three flutes and bass flute depicts a runner, who begins his running session with fresh vigour and happily completes his first laps. He persistently puts one foot in front of the other, sometimes stumbles, but keeps his speed constant until he gets out of breath and has to take a break, gasping for air. Then, he cheerfully runs on and finally disappears into the distance.
