“Something different for 2 flutes and piano”
Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]
Dave Heath is one of the most talented of musicians and the list of sponsors for this piece reflects his status in the flute world. Heath charts here the story of two great Cathar (13th century) flute players, using medieval melodies to illustrate their rise from the ashes of a massacre. It's the imaginative use of texture from the various flutes used and the freedom of the writing that is the most compelling feature of this substantial work. 'The Last Song' explores the idea of digital delay with close echoes between the instruments, 'Human Flame uses rhythmic unison to create tension and 'Sons of the Light' interweaves the flutes at great speed. Piccolo and alto add so much to the colour - if you're looking for something a little different look no further!
