“Contemporary and useful!”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]

This is a valuable flute quartet because it is really quite contemporary in nature without being horrendously difficult. It has two movements, both of which use basic extended techniques (residual tone, whistle tones, timbre trills and simple multiphonics). The first, entitled The Breeze, starts with atmospheric use of these before becoming more settled with a triplet figure using "regular flute tone". The effects return at the end. Takeoff starts with pulsating Fs and increases in complexity to a swirl of notes. It is important to use the extended techniques in these pieces, but everything used is very approachable. The conventional notes are repetitive in pattern and rhythmically the parts are very straightforward, so altogether this is an acceptable challenge!

Our Description
