Sir James Galway's Muramatsu 18k Rose Flute

Our Description

We are thrilled to offer for sale this Muramatsu solid 18k flute, belonging to Sir James Galway. Sir James personally commissioned this flute from Muramatsu in 2001, and he has played it throughout his career since purchase, including specifically:

• 2002: Music For My Little Friends with the London Mozart Players and Phillip Moll
• 2003: A Song of Home with Jay Ungar and Molly Mason (Recorded directly after 9/11 and performed at the White House under George Bush)
• 2004: "A Tribute to Henry Mancini" Gala Concert at Disney Hall, LA, with Henry Mancini, Stevie Wonder, Don Henley of the Eagles, Paul Simon and hosted by Dame Julie Andrews.

This flute is supplied with a Certificate of Provenance, signed by Sir James himself.

This flute is in beautiful condition throughout and has recently been serviced.

About Muramatsu

When, in 1923 Koichi Muramatsu began manufacturing Western concert flutes in Japan, the instrument was virtually unknown there: the population of flute players in Japan consisted of around 20 amateur and professional flautists, and the sound of the flute was almost entirely new to Japan.

As Muramatsu introduced the flute to Japan, the popularity of the instrument rose and the company grew. By the 1970s Muramatsu had established itself as the flute of choice for professionals and amateurs across the world. Many of these flutes are still going strong and sound as beautiful as they did back then, while Muramatsu - still family-owned - have continued developing their flutes to maintain their market-leading position.
