From the Publisher
The Petit Symphonie was written in 1885 and is full of glorious melodies. Because it is scored for nine wind instruments (flute, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2horns) it is not performed as often as it deserves, and it is for this reason Emerson Edition has published this work arranged for wind quintet. Whilst lacking the rich sonorities of the larger group, it gives the players the opportunity to get to know one of the greatest works of the wind ensemble repertoire
