Passacaglia for Two Piccolos

“Virtuoso plus!”
This Passacaglia, originally written for violin and cello, has been utterly transformed in this transcription for two piccolos. Peter Verhoyen and Anke Lauwers are world class players and they have brought all their experience to bear here. The slow Passacaglia theme becomes increasingly more intense with each variation. Exuberant flurries of notes are coupled with rhythmically driving semiquaver passages and some slower moments of repose to produce a work of immense power which never loses the essence of Handel's original theme. Technically this is a real workout with every aspect of piccolo playing tested, Fingerwork, embouchure flexibility, articulation, good low register colours and tuning are central to a good performance and a sense of adventure will be needed to tackle the fourth octave D and E towards the end. Virtuoso plus!
