“Interesting.”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]

Marija Esih is now established as an excellent writer of flute music and this piece, which uses some simple extended techniques, is ideal for those wanting to explore different textures. Opening with wind tones and singing and playing, there is a gradual move to conventional sound for a slow but rhythmic interlude. Wind tones return at the end. The technical demands here are completely approachable, so if you are lucky enough to have two basses and two altos and a group interested in new ways to play, this would make an unexpected contrast in a student flute concert.

From the Publisher

Flute choirs will love playing this evocative work, which includes some extended techniques: wind sound, and singing while playing, to create a very atmospheric effect.

Marija, the composer, says, 'in the same way that cell nucleus contains most of the genetic material, the main musical material in this piece is formed around the note F. With F as a center of sound, the sound expands and the melody comes to life...'
