“Popular or what!”
This may seem at first to be a rather strange pairing. Dvorak and Aladdin - surely not?! But of course it works. Mel Orriss has arranged this so that everyone gets to play the Dvorak melody (except the very low flutes), and the Aladdin tune is share around the same combination. Accessible to look at on the page as well as easy on the ear, this all works like a dream. Popular or what!
From the Publisher
Created for Brent Flute Choir for their Wembley Arena performance in 2018, this piece uses the glorious Largo from Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 to bookend a flutey setting of Alan Menken's famous song "A Whole New World" from the Disney film Aladdin. The low flutes including an optional Double Contrabass add depth to the lush harmonies. This is a great concert piece for mixed abilities, and an ideal way to work on classical and popular genres simultaneously.
Performance duration (approx): 6'00
