“Unusual McDowall”
Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]
McDowall is primarily known for her light-hearted educational pieces but here she demonstrates another aspect of her talent. Commissioned by Susan Milan, the three movements are inspired by the poetry of Lorca and are written in a contemporary idiom. McDowall has combined techniques such as quarter-tones, harmonics and slap-tonguing with her skill for making music very approachable. It's a really good piece.
