“This is great!”
Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]
This is a great arrangement where everything feels as it should be. As Ravel wrote Mother Goose originally for piano four hands, it isn't so surprising that it works for these smaller forces. The use of piccolo, alto and bass adds textural interest, making the most of Ravel's colours. Opening the Pavan with flute and alto really sets the scene and using the piccolo in Petite Poucet replicates the orchestral version. Pagodas will always be a technical workout whatever the version and the bass flute is great in Beauty and the Beast. The Jardin Feerique returns to the instrumentation of the opening. This is a wonderful way to get to know a wonderful piece!
