From the Publisher

This timeless, wistful Irish song originates from the County of Londonderry, and first appeared in print in 1855. It was given the famous lyrics that begin ‘Oh Danny Boy’, by an English lawyer, Frederic Weatherly, in 1910, but there are over a dozen other texts set to this melody. It was sung with words that begin ‘I would be true’ at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997. A number of composers have included the melody in their works including Percy Grainger, Charles Villiers Stanford and Frank Bridge.
