“Simple extended techniques in a charming setting.”

This book of completely original compositions for intermediate players is a little different. Based on the fairy tale Thumbelina, it tells her story from birth to happy-ever-after in five short movements. Both the melodic lines and the harmonies can at times be a little unpredictable giving each one a quirky character which is very appealing. It's also interesting that Flenghi decides to introduce some simple extended techniques. Flutter tonguing ,key taps, small jet whistles and starter lip glissandi are all unusual at this level and lift the book onto a different level. The music is very attractive and could easily be performed by two students or family members. It's all rather wonderful!
