“This is good!”
Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]
This combination of a great piece of Spanish guitar music and a great flute choir arranger has produced a fascinating result. The famous opening sequence is split between all the parts which is a great workout for articulation and rhythm. The slower section shines more of a spotlight on the lower flutes with some interesting unison textures. The da capo will test stamina and intonation, and overall this is one of the more challenging of Ben-Meir's smaller ensemble adaptations. It's very good!
From the Publisher
Leyenda was composed by Isaac Albeniz in 1892 as the prelude movement of his three-movement suite, Chants d'Espagne. The name "Asturias" was given to the piece posthumously by the German publisher Hofmeister, however, it should be noted that the music is not suggestive of the folk music of the Asturias region in Spain. Rather, the music is said to imitate the Flamenco dance traditions of the Andalusian region.Performance duration (approx): 6'30
