From the Publisher
Twelve adventurous, contemporary works for solo flute.
Curated, and edited by Henry Gale.
The twelve works in this anthology, spanning 50 years of musical development from 1970-2017, touch on dozens of the musical techniques and new flute sounds that emerged across the US and Europe during the 20th Century. Established works by giants of music - Tower’s Hexachords, Sollberger’s December, and Fennelly’s For Solo Flute - anchor the collection, and experimental works by Gannon, Gaber, and Nowak stretch the technique and flexibility of the player. The remaining six works serve as distinct tastes of various styles, with a heavy dose of Impressionism evident throughout.
