From the Publisher
The Kid from Venezuela was commissioned in 1990 by Aldo Abreu. lt is a 12 bar blues based on a motive from the Jamaican folk song Matilda (Matilda she take me money and run Venezuela). The idiom is purely modern jazz: there is no attempt to fuse it with anything else or water it down. However, the jazz solos for both the recorder and piano are written out. After the piano solo, the recorder and piano trade 4 bar phrases as is the tradition. In this section there are many Telemann quotations for the recorder and a Bach quote for the piano.
