Reflecting on Abtei im Eichenwald by Caspar David Friedrich, Kapelle am Oeffinger Weg portrays the special ambience of this path. I ride my bike in the dark every week on this pilger way with its crucifixes, a chapel, gnarly fruit trees that, especially in winter, form strong patterns against the night sky and remind us of the painting by Friedrich, the chimney of the power station with its atmospheric steam cloud and flashing red lights, wind, the sounds of the bike and the smell of nature. The bright sounds of the crotales, triangle, whistling and piccolo contrast to the darker sounds of the drum, beating of the chest and the drier, percussive sounds of the piccolo.
