Je te veux for Flute Choir
From the Publisher
Everyone has heard of or can sing Eric Satie's Gymnopédies or Gnossiennes. However, these well-known and charming works reflect only one aspect of the musician’s caustic, whimsical and surprising personality.
Let me tell you about what appealed to me in this song...
First, you hear the lightness of a waltz, a clear and almost genial melody. From the very first notes, you are transported back to the time of the Chat Noir, in the Quartier Latin of the Belle Epoque! It is easy to imagine Erik Satie, sitting at his piano, accompanying the cabaret singers...
But have a look at the score and you will discover a very touching writing with its melodic intelligence and harmonic richness.
I also like to think that Eric Satie slipped in a touch of his famous irony in contrasting a pure, light score with a down-to-earth, nearly blunt lyric saying ”I want you”!
Loin de nous la sagesse
Plus de tristesse
J'aspire à l'instant précieux
Où nous serons heureux
Oui, je te veux
Let’s throw discretion
And sadness to the winds.
I long for the precious moment
When we shall be happy:
I want you.
