This is a really lovely book of interesting pieces for solo flute. As with Lyrical Flute Legends, Karen North has assembled an array of stars to write these short vignettes and contributed some arrangements of classics herself. The result is another eclectic mix of styles which is great for younger players. The titles are mostly descriptive so the enigmatic Waltz of the Watermelons sits happily alongside the vibrant Rock Wallaby's Rag, whilst Chapu and Shima Enaga by Gary Schocker are too good to miss. There's even some simple flutter-tonguing in Ladybird! These 30 pieces could replace a study book, be used for sightreading, act as a starting point for some imaginative improvisation or simply be enjoyed for fun. A winner whichever way you look at it!
