“A really good arrangement.”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]

This is a really good arrangement which starts with just the bass and alto setting the scene.  Flute 3 is in next, alternating the melody with both the alto and Flute 1. As the remaining parts enter everything become increasingly more elaborate, re-creating the amazing swirl of colour which sweeps to the climax. The bass flute part uses few notes and is perfect for novices to get a feel for the instrument as well as realise how important it is in holding a piece together. It's great to be able to play a classic in this way and everyone will love it!

From the Publisher

This is perhaps Grieg's most famous composition, and comes from the first Peer Gynt suite. It was originally a piece of incidental music to accompany the scene in Ibsen's play where Peer ventures into the Mountain King's hall, finding himself surrounded by trolls, gnomes and goblins chanting 'slay him!'. It starts with a slow and sinister melody on the alto flute that repeats through all the parts, building to a thrilling climax . It is also famous as the music from the Alton Towers adverts!
