“Slightly Crazy!”
Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]
This is a slightly crazy collection of pieces. According to the blurb, this book 'demonstrates just how varied and richly colourful new music can be' and all manner of contemporary techniques are used to prove it. Composers include Wil Offermans, whose 'Working Song One for Two Flutes' makes effective use of tongue stops, wind tones and continuous key clicks. Working Song Two is for flute and woodsaw (see what I mean?) which makes extensive use of harmonics. Other highlights include Duo for Flute and Metronome by Helmut Hodl and Etude by Gabriel Ahumada which has hardly any played notes in at all. The CD is a straight performance and there are a couple of pieces with piano accompaniment. There are some conventional works here too, so this is a book for the adventurous and the possibly slightly mad flute player!
