From the Publisher
The flute concerto was inspired by my lifelong friendship with an Irish family. Scored for solo flute, string orchestra and harp, it has a strong Irish flavour, especially in the 2nd movement where the first theme is in the style of an Irish reel.
There are 2 movements. The first is long, flowing and rhapsodic, while the second is shorter, lighter and very speedy. The piece is highly Romantic in style, with luscious melodies and something of a filmic flavour. It would best suit flautists of grade 7 and 8 upwards
Difficulty guide: 8-9
Difficulty level, roughly compared to ABRSM exam grades. 0 is total beginner, 9 is advanced (beyond grade 8).
