From the Publisher
This piece is classical in feel. The introductory section is in ¾, with the bass taking the melody for the second half. The bass and alto flutes set the scene for the following section in 4/4 creating a rhythmic pattern, over which the two concert flutes duet. This section goes through several dynamic changes, with an overall increase in energy levels. There then follows a slower sounding section. The tempo stays the same, but the use of longer notes gives the impression of having slowed down. This section is darker, and has a feeling of increasing tension, before a more forceful bridge passage. The final section is more contrapuntal, leading to a tranquil conclusion.
