“Fingers at the ready!”
Flight is a great piece for really getting your finger technique to deliver the sensation of flying throught the air. This inexperienced seabird is buffeted about so Hailstork uses tumbles of very fast notes with precise dynamic colouring to paint its bumpy ride. The opening shows the uncertainty of a novice flyer and the end is triumphant as it survives. This piece packs a lot into a short space of time and is perfect for those who love to play a lot of notes!
From the Publisher
This inspiring 4½-minute solo has drama, beauty, idiomatic flashiness, and an opening theme in minor that comes back in a triumphant major key. The composer has written, “FLIGHT begins slowly, then suddenly takes off like a bird on its maiden voyage leaping from a cliff. After a torrid swing through the sky, the young bird lands gently.” FLIGHT is within reach of dedicated students, and very effective for professional recitals.
